The Cushing Library/Laughlin Collection copy has fore-edge paintings on both volumes, both depicting ships at sea. Both volumes also contain the bookplate of Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane, G.C.B. and a leather and gold gilt label that reads, "To Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Cochran, K.C.B. with the grateful remembrance of the profferer-publisher Alligator Hong Kong 28 Nov. 1848."
