Item Description:	Principal author and editor: M. Jacques Mallet du Pan. In English; a translation of: Mercure Britannique. Title from title page of volume 2, which also serves as title page for numbers IX. Title repeated as caption on first page of text of each issue. V. 4-5 have the words: "Second year" on the title page of each volume. Imprint varies slightly; volume 4-5 read in part: "Printed by A. Strahan, for T. Cadell jun. [and others]". Issues have designation on first page of text, with volume designation on direction line of each quire. Errata included on last page of each issue. Pagination and signatures continuous in each volume. English edition of M. du Pan's work on Swiss independence and European political affairs during the period of Napoleonic expansion. Nos. 1-3 include a historical essay upon the destruction of teh Helvetic League and liberty; subsequent numbers analyze, country by country, current political events in Europe. Great Britain is discussed last in each issue, with praise. Volume 5 concludes with an appeal for funds to aid the cause of Swiss independence and an account of Mallet du Pan's death and funeral. .
