Item Description:Essays written by a group of seven men: Simon Browne, Benj. Avery, Benj. Grosvenor, Sam. Wright, John Evans, Jabez Earle, Nath. Lardner, and Moses Lowman, whose initials made up the popular nickname of the publication.
Each issue has individual title page; issues in volume 1 also have half-titles.
Distinctive titles for each issue repeated as running titles.
Imprints include year of publication: arabic in volume 1, roman in volume 2-3.
Imprints vary; added names include: Em. Matthews, J. Roberts.
Monthly issues vary in content; each one is an essay on a single topic, given a distinctive title on both title page and first page of text. Subjects include religion, ethics, politics and the theater. Some issues are devoted to correspondence from readers.
