The fortunes and misfortunes of Moll Flanders, who was born in Newgate, and during a life of continued variety for sixty years was 12 times a whore, 5 times a wife, whereof once to her own brother, 12 times a thief, 11 times in Bridewell, 9 times in the New prison, 11 times in wood-street Compter, 6 times in the Poultry compter, 14 times in the gate-house, 25 times in Newgate, 15 times whipt at the cart's arse, 4 times burnt in the hand, once condemned for life, and 8 years a transport in Virginia. At last grew rich, lived honest, and died penitent.
