| Item Description: | Date on title page misprinted "MDCCVI." Cf. Foxon, Halkett and Laing, and British Library catalogue. Each poem is preceded by a half-title page. Published piratically through Roberts by Curll (who says Oldmixon was the edition) in March 1716; variously attributed to Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (these 3 satirical verses were published in her Six town eclogues, 1747), Gay & Pope, as suggested in the "Advertisement" (p.i-iii). Pope took revenge on Curll for publishing it by administering to him an emetic, as recounted in his Full and true account of a ... revenge by poison on ... Curll. -- Later editions, with additions by other authors, were issued (cf. Foxon) -- Each poem has special title page. Head- and tail-pieces; initials. Signatures (octavo): A-D⁴. Below imprint: Price Six-Pence. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as part of the Lois Goddard Morrison Collection of Eighteenth Century Literature. |
