| Summary: | "This is an edition of two previously unknown Slavic manuscripts of the Alexander tale, familiar to many European literatures. The first manuscript, in the Utrecht university library, is in Russian Church Slavonic, is 257 leaves in length, and dates from 17th century. Bound with this is the beginning of the 17th-century Dutch translation of the same text, 16 leaves long. The second, formely in the Prussian State Archives at Berlin and now aparently in Hamburg (the editor is not clear about this), more closely resembles Serbo-Chroatian. It is written in the Bosnian script, is 181 leaves in length, and dates from the 15th century. Both Slavic versions and the Dutch translation are transcribed in this edition. This, the first of two volumes..."--Pages 491-493, The Slavic and East European Journal, vol, no. 4 (Winter, 1972), review by David F. Robinson. |
