| Abstract: | Dave meets with Zach, 17, and his mother Gina, to recount and bear witness to his journey of self-acceptance and bravery as a gay young man. Zach and Dave originally worked together five years ago; at the time, Zach was experiencing homophobic bullying in school. This harassment had exceedingly harmful effects on Zach's identity along with jeopardizing his personal safety. Five years later, Zach and his mother meet with Dave to share his personal triumphs and poise in the face of heterosexism at a mainstream highschool. Gina's support of Zach while he has faced such oppression serves as an inspirational model for parents of queer-identified youth. |
