Signed by the author at the end of the final leaf with the text "8-9 thousand words". First published The Oxford and Cambridge Review, October 1911; published privately in pamphlet form in 1920, and later included in Tales of Hearsay (1925). Includes tipped-in reproduction of a sepia photograph depicting James B. Pinker standing with Joseph Conrad. Typed caption on verso reads "J.B. Pinker and Joseph Conrad taken at Burys Court a sgort [sic] time before Pinker died. I believe it has not before". The Cushing Library/Lit./Conrad copy contains the bookseller's description.
