| Summary: | The first West Hollywood Street Festival was held in September of 1986 to celebrate the diversity, culture, and traditions of West Hollywood with music, dancing, food, arts and crafts, and other entertainment, as well as a 5-10K Run/Walkathon which benefited the Los Angeles Free Clinic and Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Services. In 1989 the City Council moved the street festival to the fourth weekend in October, where it became the West Hollywood Carnival and took on more of a Halloween carnival atmosphere, including costumes into the festivities. Now called the West Hollywood Halloween "Carnaval", the event is the second largest annual event held in Los Angeles, with approximately 500,000 attendees. |
