| Summary: | Created by artist Frank Kozik, a graphic artist best known for his posters of alternative rock bands, in response to the Supreme Court's hearing a challenge to Proposition 8. Prop 8 was a California ballot initiative created by same-sex marriage opponents that restricted the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, overriding a previous ruling on the state constitution allowing same-sex couples to marry. Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional in 2010 by a Federal District Court. The initiative proponents, but not the state of California, sought an appeal and a stay was placed on the ruling. The United States Supreme Court ultimately decided that the proponents did not have standing to appeal, and the district court's ruling was allowed to stand. The poster was released on March 26, 2013, the day of the Supreme Court hearing. |
