Summary:Biography [of Arturo von Vacano by Arturo von Vacano]: "... At 28, and as a Braniff International employee, I made a two-week tour flying between Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago, Lima, Bogota, Miami, New York and Chicago to find a publisher for my 'Anton', the Bolivian 'Ulises.' I made many good friends but 'Anton' found none. 'Anton' made me famous again at 30 and my political opinions published by Ultima Hora and Presencia in La Paz sent me to jail under a ferocious military dictator, Banzer--Amazon.com.
In the early seventies of last century, Arturo Von Vacano wrote a number of stories, set in a "novel" called The Apocalypse of Anton. This accumulation of stories shows pictures of the lives of Bolivians in different stratus, and in different circumstances of life. The surrealistic style of several of the stories, and the structure of the novel characterize the work as something unusual, especially taking the literary style of Bolivian writers of the time. Von Vacano uses fantasy to bring out the veiled reality: the reader must penetrate beyond the symbols. Surrealism and fantasy narrative make the text, a tool to transmit crudely reality, protest and predict on the situation of Bolivians--Ciencia Ficción y Fantasía en Bolivia website.
