The edition of "Papermaking by hand in America" has been in process of writing and production for many years and it is probable that this book will end the activities of this private press. This edition is necessarily limited to two hundred and ten copies, two hundred of which number are available for distribution. Number [signed] Dard Hunter.
Limited, single edition, only 180 copies were completed; printed on hand-made paper using type designed and cut by David Hunter Jr., and hand-set by David Hunter Jr.

Provides a history of American papermaking by listing and describing the first paper mill in each state from 1690 until 1811; with 96 tipped-in or mounted facsimiles of documents, 27 tipped-in facsimiles of watermarks on paper made in the manner of the originals; 43 tipped-in reproductions of labels used by early paper manufacturers.
