Then we see how the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad clears railroad tracks in the winter with a rotary snowplow. Knox Williams, of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, educates us about avalanches; in Turquoise, we cheer on racers in the world's highest snowshoe race; and in Breckinridge, we're awed by the snow sculptures at the International Snow Cculpture Competition. Next we learn from male and female snow plowers who keep the highways open during the winter over Colorado's Rabbit Ears Pass; we close learning about the joy one gets cross-country skiing in the back country and staying in various huts in the wild. |
