Melodie der Welt originally released as a motion picture in 1929, restored in 2007. Booklet ([20] pages ; illustrations) with program notes, restoration history, and films history in German, with some parts translated into English and French, inserted in container. Special features include short experimental films: Weekend, In der Nacht; lobby cards, drawings and paintings, short films (Opus I-IV, 1921-1925), unrestored originals and commercials; includes DVD-ROM features which contains extended texts, documents and archive materials (computer required). Weekend (1930, 12 min.) remains one of the most outstanding experiments in sound. A film without film, Weekend was originally conceived to explore the potential of emerging sound-on-film technology. The story of a weekend in Berlin, presented on imageless film: a symphony of sound, speech-fragments and silence, perfected by cutting and mixing. In der Nacht (1931, 7 min.): a sound short which transforms music to images and is a prototype of modern music videos. |
