Summary:This volume informs about different techniques of isolated liver perfusion already used in clinical practice. Indications for liver perfusion are discussed from pathological, oncological and surgical viewpoints. Special aspects of anesthesia and postoperative management in the intensive care unit are explained. The pathophysiology of hyperthermia, chemotherapeutics and tumor necrosis factor in isolated liver perfusion are described. First clinical results including the use of tumor necrosis factor in combination with melphalan are reported. The radiological methods of postoperative monitoring of tumor necrosis after therapy are presented.
