| Summary: | This is generally aimed at solving the nonhomogenenous bi- harmonic equationby the boundary element method (BEM). Ap- plications include the bending of beams, deflection of thin plates, and creeping flow fluids. The text itself is a self- contained treatment of the implementation of the BEM in sol- ving problems with the biharmonic operator appearing in the governing equation. A computer program is included as part of the text; element types discussed and implemented in the code are the constant, linear, quadratic, and the Overhauser spline. Special techniques of handlingthe domain integrals resulting from the nonhomogeneous term are presented. The text represents the most advanced treatise to date on dea- ling withthe practical applications of the biharmonic equa- tion by boundary elements. |
