Description
Summary:This book reviews recent studies on ADP-ribosylating bacterial toxins. Sevenchapters cover the basic actions of diphtheria toxin, Pseudomonas aeruginosaexotoxins A and S, cholera toxin, pertussis toxin and clostridial ADP-ribosylating toxins. The cellular entry mechanisms of the toxins are reviewed. More recent aspects of toxin research are presented with emphasis on the structure-function relationship, activation mechanisms, and interactions of the toxins with their eukaryotic substrates (elongation factor 2, G proteins, small GTP- -binding proteins, and actin). Further topics are the functional consequences of the protein modification by ADP- -rybosylation and the use of the toxins as tools.
