Description
Summary:This book presents recent topics in magnetism and its engineering applications. Although many previous books have been devoted to the fundamental theory of magnetism and others to its technological applications, this is the first attempt to give a unified treatment of both areas. This broader viewpoint is becoming increasingly important for scientists and engineers addressing high-technology problems. The subjects discussed in this volume include the generation and application of ultra-high magnetic fields, the study of magnetism by neutron scattering, Invar alloys and compound magnetic materials, magnetorestriction, amorphous and thin-film magnetic materials, and magneto-optic recording. A useful feature of this book is the appendix, in which a great number of technical terms are explained.
