Description
Summary:This book reports the proceedings of a symposium held on 29 November-2 December, 1995 which was attended by many opinion leaders from all over the world. It aims at both giving a convenient introduction in some of the most topical issues of paediatric nutrition to newcomers in the field, as well as delivering the most recent state of the art to the respective experts. Major emphasis is given to infant nutrition and body composition, nutrition and integrity of the gut system, and maternal nutrition and its effects on the fetus and newborn. In addition to long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids which are addressed extensively, attention is also paid to other topical nutrients like cholesterol, iron and indispensable amino acids. The number of review papers and original communications is balanced. The edited discussions following each of the five sessions should be seen as complementary.
