Description
Summary:This book deals with the basic and advanced theories of curves and surfaces and their applications in CAD/CAM. Throughout the book, the description is intended to give readers not only a clear theoretical foundation but also a comprehensive understanding of geometrical properties of shapes and their processing methods. For this purpose, new and powerful methods of free-form surface synthesis and evaluation are introduced that do not rely on unnecessarily complicated mathematics. The book is written for practical engineers who need to know about theories of curves and surfaces and their processing methods for the design and manufacture of engineering objects of high quality. Accordingly, though the various methods are systematically formalized, they are also graphicallyinterpreted so that one can analyze problems just using pencil and paper with the help of the drawings. Many of the theories and methods described have been successfully applied in leading Japanese companies, and real examples are given to illustrate their role in the construction andutilization of integrated CAD/CAM systems.
