Preoperative work-up, and surgical and postoperative management are described in detail. The focus is on methods of bench surgery and subsequent autotransplantation of the kidney(s) along with the applicability and excellent results of these procedures. The various techniques are well illustrated by drawings and X-rays. Physicians of the various disciplines will learn that renal autotransplantation might be considered in patients suffering from renovascular hypertension, renal cancer, and complicated urinary calculous disease, or other complex renal/ureteral disorders: for example, extracorporeal surgery and autotransplantation offers optimal conditions for renovascular reconstruction. The technique provides excellent long-term results in the treatment of recurrent nephrolithiasis and ureteral lesions, and represents a valid alternative to nephrectomy and dialysis treatment in patients with renal carcinoma. |
