Description
Summary:This volume contains the proceedings of the First International Symposium on Multiple Risk Factors in Cardiovascular Disease, which focused on the risk factors for cardiovascular disease and their interaction. The volume reports the state-of-the-art of the pathophysiology and epidemiology of cardiovascular multiple risk factors. Atherosclerosis is markedly accelerated by risk factors, more so in the presence of concomitant hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, upper body obesity, etc. Preventive management as well as multifactorial risk estimation in individuals, with the goal of improving the cardiovascular risk profile, are presented. The volume also provides the most recent pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic advances, useful to research investigators, cardiologists, internists, and geriatricians who are often confronted with the problem of treating either single or multiple risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Strategies are reported which include screening on the population, health education, and preventive medicine.
