Description
Summary:This book reviews selected topics in human reproductive immunology, with recent research, older investigations still of validity, and topics to some extent ignored by scientists in the field. Recent advances in immunogenetics concerning HLA antigens on the trophoblasts are presented as well as the impact of parental sharing of HLA antigens on the outcome of human pregnancy, studied epidemiologically and genetically in a secluded religious sect. Chronic (habitual) abortions and their treatment by means of leukocyte transfusions - a controversial issue - are dealt with in the light of new data. Finally, the postnatal transfer of lymphocytes from mother to baby by means of the milk is discussed. The book aims to stimulate young scientists to look beyond current trends in this controversial field.
