Description
Summary:This Databook presents the data on static and dynamic characteristics of journal bearings and their applications to analysis and design of rotating machinery. Journal bearings with their oil film not only support the weight of the rotating shaft, but they also represent almost the only machine element that is able to suppress various exciting forces acting on the shaft. As these exciting forces have increased in recent years, knowledge of the exact characteristics of the bearing force on the oil film has become necessary. However, the amount of reliable data now applicable to practical design is limited. Through the activity of the "research subcommittee on dynamical characteristics of journal bearings and their application" established in the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, these data together with the static characteristics have been calculated and also measured using a number of new test rigs. These data, covering almost all practically used types of journal bearings, are the principal contents of the present databook. Moreover, it contains detailed explanations of the characteristics of oil film force and also examples for their practical application so that it may serve as a useful hand- book for either experts or beginners, as well as for researchers or designers.
