Description
Summary:This cutting-edge volume provides the very latest results of basic research in cell replication, often with a view to potential medical applications, especially new anti-proliferative cancer therapies. The book focuses on intracellular communication - the key to cell division, and hence to the inhibition of division of malignant cells - in terms of such highly evolved mechanisms as cyclin dependent kinases (cdk's). Contributors also examine DNA replication by way of so-called licensing factors, as well as the role of genes such as p53, known as the tumor suppressor gene. Other chapters painstakingly sift out "peripheral" agents such as cdk5 and cdk8.
