Description
Abstract:Following an overview of climate change and global crop productivity, the book is divided into 4 sections: the problem-changing biosphere (climatic change and variability, and agricultural contributions to greenhouse gas emissions); crop ecosystem responses to climatic change (rice, maize and sorghum, soyabean, cotton, root and tuberous crops, vegetable crops, tree crops, productive grasslands, rangelands, crassulacean acid metabolism crops, crop-weed interactions, pests and population dynamics, soil organic matter dynamics, and interactive effects of ozone, ultraviolet-B radiation, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide); mitigation strategies (crop breeding strategies for the 21st century, and role of biotechnology in crop productivity in a changing environment); and economic and social impacts (global, regional and local food production and trade in a changing environment).
