| Summary: | "The Committee on Human Relations in Industry was organized at The University of Chicago in 1943 by W. Lloyd Warner, chairman, Burleigh B. Gardner, executive secretary, and Robert J. Havighurst. The objective of the committee has been to carry on research in the social organization of industry and of our industrial society. This involves a study of the way in which factory and community mutually influence each other. We have also been investigating the problems of building cooperation within our industrial structure. The research data have been gathered through field observation and interviewing. Some of our research assistants have held full-time or part-time jobs in industry in order to explore that world through experience and observation. These students have kept detailed work diaries, which record day by day the significant human events of the work situation. Other students have carried on research within the factory or in the community through interviews and observation"--Introduction. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved). |
