Description
| Summary: | "Essential hypertension has proved to be one of the most elusive medical problems of our day. Although the underlying hemodynamic changes are fairly well understood, the mechanisms whereby the changes are brought about and the factors responsible for activating them are still obscure. In view of the oft-heard implications that "wear and tear" and "stresses of modern civilization" have something to do with the process, the authors have set out to review the data linking circulatory adjustments to life experiences. In this volume we have tried to pull together into a coherent statement the results of studies on cardiovascular function carried out over the past ten years in the laboratories of Cornell New York Hospital, including a few supplementary observations made in the Department of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation"--Preface.
