Description
Summary:"This book has been prepared because of the great need that exists today to bring within the confines of one volume for easy reference the variety of projective tests and procedures that constitute the growing armamentarium of the clinical psychologist. Although virtually all clinicians are familiar with at least several projective procedures and employ them as appropriate, there is no one today who is fully in command of the vast amount of knowledge and highly developed special skills that the projective methods presented in Projective Psychology: Clinical Approaches to the Total Personality require in clinical use. For this reason principally, and also because of the fact that projective psychology is a rapidly growing discipline in which many clinicians should have a voice, we have preferred to have the separate chapters on the several projective instruments and procedures prepared by leading workers whose competence with a particular technique or application in a special setting has been established. The result, we believe, is a happier one than might have occurred had we ourselves presumed to present the field of projective psychology from the background of our experience alone. The projective methods offered have been chosen with a catholicity which grows out of our belief that projective psychology is young and vigorous, and that it is important to set forth what is actually being practiced at the present time. We have imposed no restrictions upon the contributors, urging each to express as fully as he liked his own views, and asking only that the material offered have a practical orientation which may increase its usefulness as it finds application in the hands of others. The emphasis in each instance is chiefly upon the clinical use of the various procedures rather than upon their use as research tools in personality or clinical inquiries"--Preface.
