Description
Summary:"The Training School at Vineland New Jersey is a private institution, founded in 1888 for the care and training of mentally subnormal children and adults. The institution is not operated for profit, but is self-supporting on a tuition basis. It is governed by an Association, which elects a Board of Trustees. The Board appoints a Director, the present Director having served as head of the institution since 1898. The Association also elects a Board of Lady Visitors, who visit the institution regularly and report upon internal conditions. The two Boards are made up of outstanding individuals in the professions, in business, in philanthropy, and in social welfare activities. The professional staff of the institution is supplemented by a staff of medical consultants and a staff of paidological consultants"--Chapter. "Twenty-five years have passed. A silver anniversary provides an occasion (or an excuse) for a "party," and the Feeble- Minded Club, having thrived on friendliness and discussion, devoted its 1931 fall meeting to a program of larger proportions than usual. Plans were made for an informal conference combining sociability with serious discussion and designed to review the period just completed and to anticipate the years ahead. This anniversary volume presents the formal papers offered at the conference, supplemented by a brief review of work done and a tentative program of research for the near future. Some pages are devoted to felicitations and comment, but adequate recognition cannot be expressed for the generous good will that has been accorded this Laboratory during these years from all quarters of professional and scientific activity. This volume is a commemoration of that good will and a memorial to the imagination, devotion and abilities of all those who have participated directly and indirectly in this endeavor"--Foreword.
