Description
Summary:The 32-mile long Lake George, located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York is home to a collection of sunken juggernauts that two-and-a-half centuries ago transported troops of the mighty British Empire. In the autumn of 1758, British forces at Lake George deliberately sank over 260 warships to protect them over the winter from French raiders. Many of these vessels were not retrieved in 1759 and thus today they offer unparalleled opportunities for scientific study. For over 20 years, a group of shipwreck sleuths have worked to answer puzzling questions about the sunken fleet of 1758. Why did the British deliberately sink much of their mountain lake squadron? How did the British raise many of these warships? And how did this unconventional strategy help the British win the French & Indian war? Join underwater archaeologists as they dive into the depths of Lake George to uncover "Wooden bones."
