Summary:This book describes promising new ways of meeting the complex needs of children and families and, in the process, transforming the way in which the service system works. The book presents case studies of model programs in a wide range of settings and gives specific consideration to how psychological practitioners can work within the emerging integrated system of care to enhance their own practice. This volume will be useful to a broad human services audience, including practitioners, trainers, administrators, and others who care about improving services to children and families.
Individual service delivery systems for children (e.g., health care, education, social service, mental health) are funded and designed to address isolated and crisis-oriented needs, rather than to promote healthy development for all children and families in a comprehensive fashion. An integrated service model provides for a more coherent, needs-based response to complex problems. /// In order to more closely assess the current array of services in regard to the psychological and mental health needs of children ages 0 through 10 years, the Board of Professional Affairs of the American Psychological Association (APA) established a Task Force on Comprehensive and Coordinated Psychological Services for Children (TFCCPSC) in 1994.
