Description
Summary:Mark A. Stevens works with a male client from Ghana who has lived in the United States for 14 years and has become acculturated to Western life. The client has been married to an American woman for several years and is aware of different perspectives between himself and his wife. He sees his marriage as a partnership and is strongly committed to the relationship, but struggles with shared decision-making in the domestic setting and how it makes him feel as if he is sometimes at odds with his wife. Stevens helps the client to recognize his strength and deep sense of values as positive attributes, and to also see how his strong principles and honest expression could have an intimidating effect on those close to him, including his wife. He helps the client to use flexibility and his love for and commitment to his wife to motivate a deeper understanding of her needs.
