Description
Summary:Clinical psychologist Dr. George Stricker conducts the third of five sessions with a middle-aged African American single mother. The client presents with depressive symptoms following divorce and a period of unemployment. Dr. Stricker assists the client in processing her emotions around losses and disappointments, manifesting in conflicts with extended family and difficulty with work and financial areas of her life. Working from an assimilative psychodynamic integration approach, he continues to validate the client's emotional experience while increasingly reinforcing the client's steps toward exploration, growth, and an enhanced self-concept. He provides homework to the client to help her monitor her daily activities to support more active efforts toward regaining employment and developing adaptive coping mechanisms.
