| Summary: | At the beginning of this, the fifth of six sessions, the client and therapist discuss her concerns about the anxiety levels of her 28-year old married daughter, who is seeing a counselor and is a caregiver to the client's invalid mother. The therapist then encourages the client to discuss her current part-time job and speculate on what features would make a career rewarding to her. The conversation turns to the client's worries about her 15-year-old daughter who is also in counseling and harboring resentment about her father's death and older brother's demands on her mother. The client expresses frustration at how she no longer has anyone to take care of her--as her former husband and parents did. The therapist empathizes and encourages her to think about how she can determine a new life role for herself as single, independent person.
