Description
Summary:In this session, Dr. G. Alan Marlatt conducts an intake interview with a woman in her 40s with 6 years of sobriety who began using drugs at an early age. The client recounts life experiences, including her origins as a child of an alcoholic family, that led to increasing drug use and ultimately resulted in her involvement in a 12-step recovery program. While the client has successfully practiced drug abstinence for several years, she has a history of drug rehabilitation followed by relapse. In his cognitive-behavioral approach, Marlatt assesses current risk of drug relapse and provides positive reinforcement, validating the client on her achievements in sobriety. The client's concerns about her role as a parent in drug recovery are also explored at length.
