Description
Summary:In their final session together, Melba J.T. Vasquez works with a young African American woman in her late 20s who is experiencing issues with trust and intimacy in dating. Using multicultural therapy as a framework, Vasquez establishes an empathic and supportive rapport with her client and honors the difficulties that African American women encounter in finding suitable partners. Vasquez checks in with the client regarding recent developments and reviews the goals established in previous sessions. As a result of their work together, the client feels that she is better able to appreciate herself and understand her differences. Vasquez asks the client to imagine what not finding a life partner would be like but also reassures her that achieving self-acceptance will increase the likelihood of her entering into a committed relationship.
