| Summary: | Counseling psychologist Mark L. Savickas conducts the second of three sessions in a course of brief psychotherapy with a young adult Asian American client. The client has recently discontinued a program in culinary arts and is seeking confidence and direction in making a career change. The therapist works from a narrative counseling approach to engage the client in a constructivist process unfolding from the life story told in the previous session. In this session, the therapist gives the story back to the client in a way that draws together themes, working to build self-esteem and a meaningful self-concept with regard to the client's future career options. The therapist continues to build on the previous dialectic of the client's impulsive, spontaneous nature alongside his inherent strivings for greater maturity. In this constructivist process, therapist and client come to a shared and inspired view of the client's potential for becoming a role model for others.
