Description
Summary:The therapist works with a married woman in her thirties who has been suffering from bulimia for the past 19 years and wants help in overcoming the behavior. The client explains that she practices binge-eating and purging to regulate her weight and that she has only been able to control it during her pregnancies. In this fifth of six sessions, the therapist and client discuss her fears about the consequences of giving up bulimia. The therapist encourages her to think about a life free of the disorder. In response, the client discusses furthering her education, "going public" about bulimia, and raising awareness of the disorder through writing. They also discuss the client's chaotic family of origin and role models, and her current relationship with her husband. The client begins to envision directions in which she might take her life without bulimia.
