| Summary: | The therapist works with a married woman in her thirties who has been suffering from bulimia for the past 19 years and wants help in overcoming the behavior. The client explains that she practices binge-eating and purging to regulate her weight and that she has only been able to control it during her pregnancies. In this fourth of six sessions, the therapist and client begin by discussing their between-session exchange of emails. The client volunteers that she has been able to be more assertive toward others. The therapist and client discuss how bulimia plays into issues of stress relief and control. The therapist helps the client understand sociocultural factors involved in bulimia and affirms that she is not alone in her suffering. He encourages her to find the strength to stand up to bulimia as she found the strength to leave an abusive partner. |
