Description
Summary:The therapist works with a married woman in her thirties who has been suffering from bulimia for the past 19 years and wants help in overcoming the behavior. The client explains that she practices binge-eating and purging to regulate her weight and that she has only been able to control it during her pregnancies. In this second of six sessions, the therapist normalizes the client's experience, explaining to her that many other women share her experiences. He encourages her to examine how the "voice" of bulimia works against her own interests and how she might use her strengths to counteract what it is telling her. They discuss the client's low self-worth and desire to please others at her own expense. The client expresses her interest in writing and the therapist strongly encourages her to journal about her bulimia and share her writing with him.
