| Summary: | The parents of four children--a ten-year old and three eight-year old triplets--are concerned that they have grown apart after a series of life challenges. They describe feelings of anger toward each other and a lack of intimacy. In this first session of the series, the therapist elicits basic information about the couple's family and what has brought them to therapy. The couple describes feeling overwhelmed by the demands of parenting and running their own business together, and admits to feelings of anger and loss of identity. The therapist encourages the couple to recollect how they met and fell in love, and asks them what they miss about the features of their early relationships. The therapist encourages the couple to begin to reconceptualize their troubled relationship by drawing upon the strengths of their early relationship and love for each other.
