Summary:	Susan H. McDaniel counsels a couple with a young child who are concerned about their frequent arguments, which include physical abuse, and the possible disintegration of their relationship. In this session, McDaniels constructs a genogram as she elicits further information about their families of origin and the nature of partner relationships within their respective families. After soliciting information about both positive and negative behaviors the couple observed in their respective families, McDaniels asks the couple about specific problem behaviors they observe in their partner. As homework, she asks them to do a role trading exercise to improve their perspective-taking and ability to compromise.
