Description
Summary:The client, a 52 year-old woman, has been the primary caregiver for her parents for years. Her father recently died, and she is struggling with the memories of emotional, physical, and verbal abuse by him. Her boyfriend of nine years is emotionally unavailable and verbally abusive in a way that reminds her of her father. This session focuses on the client's desire to lose her worry and obsessiveness and to detach so she is not bothered by her boyfriend's abuse. She explains that she is attracted by troubled men so that she can change or help them. Dr. Jeremy D. Safran helps her see the sadness and anger underlying her inability to end this relationship, and they explore the likelihood that she will find another abusive relationship if she terminates this one.
