Description
Summary:Jeffrey J. Magnavita demonstrates his personality-guided therapeutic approach with an adult woman involved in an ongoing abusive and toxic relationship with her mother. The client seeks help with asserting herself toward her mother while ending her pattern of displacement on to her own daughter. In their fourth session, Magnavita guides the client through processing her feelings of sadness, grief, and anger. To intensify these emotions, he and the client engage in role playing wherein Magnavita instructs the client to practice making direct and forceful statements to her mother. In addition, they reenact past abuses to further tap into the client's anger. Using assertiveness techniques and a mantra, Magnavita coaches the client to stop the multigenerational transmission process and triangulation patterns she is involved in with her mother and daughter.
