Description
Summary:Dr. Nadya Fouad conducts a therapy session with an established client, a young African American woman and single mother, who presents with uncertainty about her educational aspirations and occupational choice. Working within a culturally oriented vocational counseling approach, Dr. Fouad assists the client in exploring two areas of career interest expressed by the client--counseling and crime investigation--drawing out core elements of the client's interests in and reservations about these lines of work. The therapist encourages the client to express her dreams and important aspects of her family background and role models while taking account of practical considerations. In the session, the therapist invites the client to envision an ideal future workday. Dr. Fouad guides her through a deliberate, yet imaginative goal-setting process that involves opening pathways to gathering information and considering potentially new ways of combining her career interests.
