Description
Summary:Clinical psychologist Dr. Bob Knight conducts an initial psychotherapy session with an 85-year-old Caucasian male client. The client discusses his adjustment to life changes related to aging and retirement. Dr. Knight uses contextual adult life span theory for adapting psychotherapy (CALTAP) in working with this client. The therapist opens up space for the client to discuss both continuity and change over his life span. The therapist's active listening encourages the client in a reflective process that encompasses positive and negative elements of his childhood experiences during the Depression, challenges and satisfactions in his marriage and parenting, and adjustment to life changes. Within this age-sensitive contextual framework, Dr. Knight attends to the client's daily functioning while facilitating his consolidation of memories and values and consideration of wishes and hopes for the future.
