Description
Summary:In their fourth session together, Martin M. Antony works with a female young adult in her late 20s who is encountering difficulties managing academic and parenting-related anxiety and stress. Building on cognitive-behavioral techniques presented in previous sessions, Antony works with this client to develop a plan to complete her school work. In addition to combating academic procrastination, he recommends that she moderate her overprotective parenting impulses and explains that parental anxiety is a high predictor of child anxiety. He reminds the client that her emotions are triggered by her thoughts, therefore, she must continue working on recontextualizing her thoughts while resisting the urge to suppress her emotions. As part of the homework component of therapy, Antony asks the client to fill out new thought records to track her overprotective parenting impulses.
