Alan Marlatt about her concern over her prescription for Vicodin, as well as her recent return to tobacco smoking. The client is cross-addicted to alcohol and drugs, and her last replapse involved pills. Currently, she is a member of Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Dr. Marlatt listens to the client discuss triggers for her relapses, and the need for someone in recovery to be aware of the higher risk for relapse involved in moments when they are hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. Marlatt instructs the client on a type of meditation to help her in "urge surfing." which she intends to use for during her current attempt to stay off of cigarettes.
