Description
Summary:Ayala Goren, a specialist in Israeli folk and ethnic dancing, begins by defining the difference between the two terms. She points out the wide variety of ethnic dance forms brought to the present-day state of Israel since the early days of Zionism. She cites the contributions of Gert Kaufman, later called Gurit Kadman, as a pioneer in the documentation of these ethnic dances, and in the creation of new dances that became known as Israeli folk dancing. In discussing the evolution of both forms, she notes the necessary compromises of stage presentation and the changes that have resulted from the proliferation of dances and participants.
